Diy Doormat For Your College Apartment

Hey Ya’ll! It has been way too long since I’ve last written a blog post- I’m experiencing some extreme writer’s block. I was trying to think about what I wanted to post and then it hit me. Last week I completed a fun craft where I did a DIY doormat to put outside of my apartment. It became a big hit among my friends and family so I want to share with you how I did it!

Buy A Cheap Doormat

I was looking for a plain brown mat and couldn’t really find what I wanted in stores so I ordered it online. The mat I bought was a 18” by 30”Coir Mat from JOANN Fabrics. It only cost me $13.

Buy Black Acrylic Paint

(if you don’t already have it)

Any craft store paint will be fine. I used whatever I found in my basement. If you are particular about it, you can look for a paint that is actually intended for outdoor use. My apartment is inside a large complex so the door mat is more for cute decor and I am not worried about it getting weathered.

Use Canva To Create Your Design

Canva is a free graphic design site that I use for almost everything. Create a free account, and then make a document the size of an 8″ by 11″ piece of paper. On this document you will chose the font of the letters you want to use or any other designs.

Print And Cut Out To Make Stencils

Lay Out Words Then Begin Painting!

Get out a yard stick or ruler to make sure that the letters are lined up straight and it is centered on the mat (this is where I messed up).

Final Product:

I connected the letters because it looked choppy since the stencils were on different papers.
