5 Spring Break Ideas For College Students

Spring Break is fast approaching! I decided to write an article of spring break ideas for college students for all of those last minute planners out there. These five ideas are very common for college students, and the opportunities will not be hard to come across. Ideas range for all budget types and interests.

1. Airbnb

AirBnb is the answer to a college students prayers! The luxury of having space including a kitchen to make your own meals and a living room to fill with air mattresses is perfect for the college kids who are ballin’ on a budget. Unlike a hotel, an Airbnb will not prevent you from packing the house with as many people as you can comfortably sleep.

For example, this Airbnb in Miami, Florida is $100 a night with two bedrooms, and sleeps six. However someone could sleep on the couch and you have space for an air mattress. That apartment could really fit eight people, meaning each would have to spend only $12.50 a night.

2. Study Abroad

This is a perfect spring break idea for college students! Many Universities offer study abroad programs during spring break for students that cannot make the time for a semester or maymester. All colleges are different in the programs they offer, and the credit that you can earn with those programs. University of South Carolina offers programs to destinations such as:

  • Exploring Life and Culture in Morocco
  • Islamic Economics and Finance in the United Arab Emirates
  • Exploring Global Business in Latin America
  • Global Health and Primary Care in Costa Rica
  • Sport and Entertainment Management in Spain and Portugal

While this is definitely not the cheapest option, you can apply for scholarships and you will be gaining college credits.

3. Become a campus ambassador!

A lot of programs have started planning trips for college students because they know that the students don’t want to plan it themselves when it is a really big group of people. The way it works is, you can become an ambassador for the company, and by getting a lot of people to sign up for the trip, your trip will be paid for! You help them get more customers, and they let you go on a huge discount.

Included in most of these programs is:

  • Hotel accommodations
  • Airport shuttle
  • Nightclub entry
  • Night club shuttle
  • Unlimited dining (differs by program)
  • Organized events and activities

I heard about this spring break idea for college students when I went to the Bahamas and a whole resort was rented out by college students because of this program. They had preplanned pool parties, and even exclusive access to a concert. A student I talked to seemed pretty pleased with the accommodations and planning, but I would say not to expect perfection and high quality food.

If you are interested, there are plenty of programs but here is the one I was looking at:

4. Mission Trip!

One way to make your spring break more impactful is to go on a mission trip. This can be with your church, a school organization, or even a company that specifically takes students on mission trips. Popular tasks would be building houses, teaching english, hurricane relief, and refugee help. Make sure that when you do this, you work with an organization that is helpful not hurtful to the host community. I have not gone on a mission trip, but my sister is going to build houses in Mexico over her spring break and I am so excited for her!

Here is one of the many programs that offers mission trips:

5. Go home

I know that going home for spring break doesn’t sound like the most fun option, but it is definitely the cheapest and allows you to get some quality family time. Use this time to put aside money and save so that you can plan a super fun spring break with your pals next year. If you can, try to work during this break! If you run out of ideas and feel bored check out my post about things to do over winter break.

These are only five of the several things you can do for spring break, all for different price ranges. I will be spending my spring break with my boyfriend’s family in Ft. Lauderdale for the beginning, and then going home to see my family for a few days. I would love to see how you guys spend your spring break so please send me your plans for where you are going and pictures of you and I will share it on my instagram account!
