5 Pieces of Equipment I Used To Transform My Travel Videos

Hi guys! I just took a trip to Mexico and have been dedicating lots of time on the trip to videographing the scenery and my family. My techniques of making videos has drastically changed since I first started (almost 3 years ago!) and I am going to review the equipment I used to make this happen.

DJI Mavic Pro

The DJI drone is my favorite piece of photography/videography gear. This drone has one of the best battery lives of several different brands: 22 minutes. My drone has several smart functions like return to home, follow me, obstacle avoidance, path follower, and so much more that I haven’t even begun to try out. The remote of the drone connects to your phone so you are able to see the live view and save it your phone immediately. No SD card needed. The Mavic Pro is durable and when I accidentally ran it into a billboard it was only a bit scratched. I also loved how I can easily replace the propeller.

Most importantly, the quality of the drone’s camera is incredible.

DJI Osmo Mobile

Since DJI has proven to be a high quality brand, I also have an Osmo Mobile. A Osmo Mobile is a stabilizer that attaches to your phone and connects via bluetooth. We actually bought this Osmo a while ago for my dad and it collected dust for a bit. I never used it because I usually filmed videos with my DSLR camera rather than my phone.

However, it is a really good stabilizer so when I decided to use my phone to film my most recent trip instead of the DSLR, it came in handy. Some features that I really like are the button to take pictures, or switch back and forth between mediums. The Osmo is also great for vloggers who are often filming themselves in a selfie mode.

Iphone 11 Pro

I am so excited about this phone! The Iphone 11 is special because of it’s huge improvement in the camera. I have been using my Canon EOS Rebel 6 forever, but I think this phone might come close to replacing it for everything except long exposures.

The Iphone 11 Pro has 3 cameras, one regular lens, one telephoto, and one ultra-wide. The camera also records 4K video and maintains focus which is something that I always struggled with on my DSLR. Pair this with a stabilizer, and you will get cinematic footage for your travel video.

Go Pro Hero 5 Black

I am not Go Pro’s biggest fan because I find it difficult to use. The last time I used our Go Pro was about 3 years ago and I felt like the effort that it took to operate wasn’t worth the mediocre footage that I wasn’t really going to do anything with.

However, now that I have gotten so into videography I have learned the value in the Go Pro because it provides such a unique way to tell the story in your video. I really want to use my Go Pro for underwater shots when snorkeling, surfing, or swimming. This unique perspective is important. Especially when a trip is really focused around water activities.

WonderShare Filmora Video Editor

WonderShare is less of a piece of equipment and more of a tool that I use. I used to make my videos with Apple’s imovie but I always had so many problems with saving and uploading my videos so I bought this program.

I love this editor because it is so easy to use, provides some music, includes title pages and fun graphics you can include and much more. This program has been well worth my money and makes my videos stand out from the rest.
